App Spotlight:Angry Birds

Time to review the famous Angry Birds. Angry Birds as you may know is one of the most popular apps on the App Store. You use your birds which vary in size shape and function, and slingshot them at a fortress which also varies with size, shape and building material. As you progress you get harder and harder puzzles which look impossible but you still defeat them – god knows how? It may be because you eventually end up spending so much time on it! This fun addicting game is only £0.69!

Minecraft: Why I play it

Minecraft seems a pointless game for many. It can be boring for some. Others like me really enjoy it. But why? Well firstly the blocky look if the game is so pleasing and clean. The freedom to build and destroy whatever and whenever you want. It’s your world and yours only. The things you can build, the towering and the widest walls. The fact it has things no other game has seen like the ‘creeper’sssssssso unique! Basically the freedom over you vast blocky world to make huge things and kill creepers is what I like.

MW3: at War with Hackers

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has gone to war with the dirty little hackers. Once you may have played a on-line game, and came across a guy who was flying or hiding in a rock. Most of these people are hackers and cheaters gaining an unfair advantage over us normal people. Well Activision says no more banning over 1600 people in the first few weeks of release:

”Any attempt to cheat, hack or glitch in MW3 will no be tolerated”, says creative strategist Robert Bowling on twitter. ”1600+ bans issued. Updates in works. Please cont. to report offenders.”

The hackers seemed to have gained the ability to exit the on-line map and hide in ‘unauthorised’ places.

”We will verify reports with in-game stats, in-game video recordings and other data to verify you were cheating” Robert bowling tweeted.

The bans have affected both PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 users. Rival game ‘Battlefield 3’ has had to ban players who found ways to gain thousands of points in matches.

Amazing Breaker

This colourful gaming is sure to take your mind of things for a while. A little like Angry Birds you pitch and catapult different types of ‘bombs’ to break and destroy glassy ice looking shapes. You must destroy 90% of the shape to pass to the next level. As you progress through the game you find harder and more complex shapes to tackle, you have to put the right bombs in the right place. It can be quite frustrating with you destroying 89% of the shape but makes you feel all the better when you pass it. The game feels great and if you’re not sure there in a lite version which is free, the full game costs all  £0.69. A bargain if you ask me.

Xbox or PS3

For quite a while now the ultimate gamers question has been ‘Xbox or PS3?’. I am a Xbox guy and have been for almost a year. I used to play on a PS2 and it was a good console, but how things have improved. Price – the Xbox is cheaper, however you are missing out on the blu-ray capability of the PS3. Feel – I really like the Xbox controller, it fits snugly in your hand and I would say, is a better choice for the more competitive gamer. PS3, I feel is for the ‘luxurious’ gamer (so to speak) for it has better graphics and not to mention the beautiful curvy black console (better looking than the Xbox). Games – there isn’t much between them, normally the games are released at the same time for both of them. Xbox live tends to get the map packs and additions to games first, PS3 network a week or two later.

In summary both are great consoles and I wouldn’t say no to either! But because I don’t need the blu-ray and I really do like the Xbox controller, I tend to swing towards Microsoft’s Xbox. You may be calling me bias right now but it is just my opinion. What are you? Xbox? or PS3? leave your answer in the comments:

MInecraft 1.0

Minecraft is officially out, after ages as a beta the world famous RPG adventure game is here. At MineCon creator Markus ‘Notch’ Persson flicked a giant Minecraft switch symbolising the release of Minecraft. The new released game has everything from 1.9 pre-release with some minor bug fixes. Some of the new stuff are: new achievements, Enderdragons and The End!

Minecraft Xbox 360!

This weekend at MineCon fans and guests will be treated to a look at the Minecraft Xbox 360 game coming out in the Spring. They will also see a Minecraft Xbox 360. It is still unknown if this will be a limited edition thing with only a few around or mass produced.

MineCon is this weekend at Las Vegas. It will have lots of fun activites, there will be the Xbox Minecraft game, the full Minecraft Version and much much more!

Minecraft iOS

Minecraft Pocket Edition has finally come to iPhones, iPods and iPads. Yes Minecraft has come to Apple! A listing on the New Zealand Itunes Store shows the game to be available for $9.99 (NZ Dollar) which is about $6.99 (US Dollar), that’s about the same price as the Android Version. The game will be compatible with any device running iOS 4.3 or higher. unfortunately the specifications are to high for my first generation iPod touch!

According to the description the game will allow players to ‘move beyond the limits of your computer and play Minecraft everywhere you go’. The game is unfortunately limited to Creative mode with only 36 kinds of blocks for building with. It will still randomly generate worlds for you and using WI-Fi players can invite others to their world! The game is looks lacking in areas for there are less blocks to play with and no survival mode. However it is new and will obviously be updated, it’s still a long way to go!

Peta got beef with Mario

Animal rights group Peta (people for the ethical treatment of animals) has a problem with everyone favourite Italian Mario. They say that by Mario wearing a Tanooki suit in Super Mario 3D Land is sending a message that it’s OK to wear fur. I’m for animal rights but this is just stupid! Nintendo responded by saying that these light-hearted and magical transformations give Mario abilities and make his games fun to play and that it makes no statement beyond the games themselves.
