In growing these crops you get XP and golden coins. There are also challenges set to you by Papa Smurf where you get extra XP for completing. App Spotlight:Angry Birds

Time to review the famous Angry Birds. Angry Birds as you may know is one of the most popular apps on the App Store. You use your birds which vary in size shape and function, and slingshot them at a fortress which also varies with size, shape and building material. As you progress you get harder and harder puzzles which look impossible but you still defeat them – god knows how? It may be because you eventually end up spending so much time on it! This fun addicting game is only £0.69!

Amazing Breaker

This colourful gaming is sure to take your mind of things for a while. A little like Angry Birds you pitch and catapult different types of ‘bombs’ to break and destroy glassy ice looking shapes. You must destroy 90% of the shape to pass to the next level. As you progress through the game you find harder and more complex shapes to tackle, you have to put the right bombs in the right place. It can be quite frustrating with you destroying 89% of the shape but makes you feel all the better when you pass it. The game feels great and if you’re not sure there in a lite version which is free, the full game costs all  £0.69. A bargain if you ask me.

Minecraft iOS

Minecraft Pocket Edition has finally come to iPhones, iPods and iPads. Yes Minecraft has come to Apple! A listing on the New Zealand Itunes Store shows the game to be available for $9.99 (NZ Dollar) which is about $6.99 (US Dollar), that’s about the same price as the Android Version. The game will be compatible with any device running iOS 4.3 or higher. unfortunately the specifications are to high for my first generation iPod touch!

According to the description the game will allow players to ‘move beyond the limits of your computer and play Minecraft everywhere you go’. The game is unfortunately limited to Creative mode with only 36 kinds of blocks for building with. It will still randomly generate worlds for you and using WI-Fi players can invite others to their world! The game is looks lacking in areas for there are less blocks to play with and no survival mode. However it is new and will obviously be updated, it’s still a long way to go!

You are the Assassin in this free game, taking down mobsters, criminals and generally bad guys. You meet your array of shady contacts, all have a price but all reap rewards. Select your weapon form 20 distinctive sniper rifles, hand guns, assault rifles, submachine guns and even tranquilizers. Spot your target, zoom in, breath in and take the shot, all with this awesome action shooter. You can go for headshots for extra cash and XP but, there is a time limit so don’t spend all day aiming. You’re job could be a simple shot or an ambush! With the vast amount of customisable aspects of this game it is one of my favourite shooters on the App Store.

App Spotlight: Skies of Glory

Skies of Glory Online Dogfight

Are you the Ace in the sky? This WW2 flying game is great and uses the accelerometer. First you pick a plane – German, American or British. Then pick the main weapon – rockets, bombs or heavy machine gun (you also have a light machine gun). On your own you can have set dogfights, which as you go through them vary by the number of enemies and the number of your wingmen. There is also a campaign which changes from you attacking ports to escorting bombers. There is an online multiplayer which you can either have a huge ‘dogfight’ (teams and free-for-all) or attack the base. This is a fantastic game, you will not stop playing on it.

Xbox: Dashboard Update

The New Design - Looking good!

The next annual November Xbox Dashboard update is said to be more than routine. For starters your interface will change, getting a ‘new’ look. Most of us will hate it at first, as you do, but I hope it will be worth while. What may prove most interesting is what the new Dashboard will bring to the table. You may have seen the vast amount of TV broadcasters Microsoft have signed to bring your TV fix. The likes of YouTube and Bing have been accommodated in the new Dash. The new Dash is thought to have a ‘App’ tab to bring a third-party to the Marketplace – reminds me of the Apple ‘App Store’, surely Microsoft aren’t copying Apple? Will these ‘Apps’ be played on though, I mean with the vast amount of Games out there do we really need ‘Apps’?

The Kinect will be integrated within the Dash aswell – Bing will have complete voice control and gestures will be used to cycle through the Dash menu. Finally Microsoft are using their inventions. The update is dated on November 15th 2011 but looks more November 25th 2011.

App Spotlight: High Noon

High Noon Duel

Howdy Cowboy, get your Gunslinging buddies for this Wild West Shootout! This fun game is free and expertly uses the accelerometer, where you go from a stance (your iPod/iPhone is pointing down) then you quickly whip it up at take aim. You control everything from the aim to how many bullets you reload by. So face off an opponent with your trusty revolver. You level up by earning gold which you can then go on to buy new guns (revolvers and rifles), aids – like a bit of whisky to make the pain go away, clothes and haircuts to accessorize your guy. It’s quite an adrenaline packed game for an iPod! Good luck!

App Spotlight: Rugby Kicks

Rugby Kicks 'Break The Wall' game mode

I’m not usually a sporting game fan but this game is topical due to The Rugby Word Cup finishing, only days ago. This game is like ‘Paper Toss’ and just as addictive but it’s free!. You are a rugby player with the posts in sight, you swipe the screen up and with a slight gradient to determine the direction, the speed at which you swipe determines the power of the ball. It starts off quite easy but looks to get harder as you earn more points. The points you earn can buy kit (not as important, just accessories) and other stadiums (international and club) with each of these has another game mode attached. First you start off with ‘beat The Clock’ where you have to get as many penalties as you can in 60 seconds. Once you have bought the ‘club stadium’ you get the ‘Hit The Target’ game mode which sort of explains its self. Once you have bought the ‘international stadium’ you get the ‘Break The Wall’ game mode, where there is a ‘wall’ in the posts and you repeatedly hit it to break it, again obvious. This game is great for a quick gaming fix, but I worry it might not do for a longer time but that’s, a matter of opinion.
